packing more math into the math block
Constance Borro is a veteran mathematics departmental chair, instructional coach, curriculum designer, and program revitalizer. Her work focuses on identifying strengths and areas of improvement within a mathematics department using research-backed standards in the areas of curriculum, teacher practice, and student engagement. Once identified, she will make holistic recommendations that will serve to address:
all five major components of a balanced mathematics program, including fluency
improving culture around mathematics for teachers and students,
parent engagement/education opportunities needed, and
strategy around achievement metrics, including high-stakes tests and grading.
Grading and Assessment: Roadmap to achievement
In schools, the “bottom line” is student achievement, which is often measured through grading and/or high stakes testing. Does your school’s or district’s policy on grading truly reflect and motivate student achievement, or does it more serve to reward or penalize students for certain behaviors? If your grading and assessment strategy is in need of a redesign, contact Constance Borro through her partner organization, Mastery Portfolio, for clarity on your next steps.
